How it works ? Proteg enhances the way you gain access to your personal or notebook computer* by making it more secure than using the conventional method which depends only on username and password. With Proteg, the access security of your computer is substantially improved because an additional hardware (security token) is now required alongside with the password. This method of authenticating user is called two-factor authentication - the user must know something (password) and must have something (hardware) in order to gain access to the computer. This makes it difficult for undesirable person to gain unauthorized access to your computer. The uniqueness of Proteg is that it can intelligently convert the ordinary USB mass storage device (USB flash drive, USB key, thumbdrive) into a security token - hence saving you from investing in expensive hardware such as smart card. To use Proteg, you must first download the executable program from our website and install it on your computer. Before installation, you are advised to get yourself a USB mass storage device from your nearest computer store (if you haven't got one). During the installation, you will be asked to insert the USB mass storage device into the available USB port of your computer, and the installation wizard will guide you through the entire installation process. Once the installation is completed, you will be asked to restart your computer. While the installation takes place, Proteg intelligently binds your existing account name to the USB mass storage device. * - Currently supported by Windows XP and 2000 only.
