Q1. Why is password not secure enough ?

There are many ways of which a password can be compromised. The easiest way is to guess the password based on the certain information that the victim might be associated with (name of a person, activity, object, date, color, food, number, etc). To make the password harder to guess, one must resort to use a more complex password which comprises alphanumeric characters. This creates new problem as user often forgets the password.

Today, many tools are freely available on the Internet to crack passwords. An advanced password cracker tool can easily break a weak password in a split second, whereas a Key Logger (a spy program residing in the victim's computer) can capture keystrokes and later send it to the hacker.

Q2. What is two-factor authentication ?

Two factor authentication is an authentication (verification) scheme which requires something the user know (the correct password) and something the user possess (the USB storage device) in order to access a system.

Q3. After using Proteg with my USB storage device, can I still use the device to store files ?

Yes, you can continue to use your USB storage device to store files just like the way you used it before installing Proteg.

Q4. I have forgotten my password. What should I do?

An emergency user account (with Administrator privilege) will be automatically created when you install Proteg on your computer. The password for this account is automatically generated using a complex mathematical algorithm based on certain unique parameters only known to you such as your email address, mother’s maiden name, favourite color and horoscope.

In the event that you have totally forgotten your password, you can request for it by filling out a form (entering the same parameters) available through our website. The password for the emergency account will then be generated and emailed to you. Please note that we do not keep your password. Since the emergency account has administrator privilege, you are able to access your computer using this password and later disable your Proteg-enabled user account password.

Alternatively, you may also login using Administrator account (by pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL at the logon screen) if you know the corresponding password.  Once you have gained access to the Administrator account, use the Proteg Manager application to reset your Proteg-enabled user account password.

Q5. How can I purchase a license for the software?

You may evaluate the Proteg software for 60 days after which the software will cease its operation. If you choose to continue using the software, you may purchase the license key using the Proteg Manager application -> Purchase License

Q6. What is the duration of trial period?

The trial period is 60 days from the date you install the software.

Q7. Can I use the same USB storage device to login to different computer?

No. You can only use one USB storage device for each Proteg-enabled user account.

Q8. Can I transfer my software license to another computer?

No. The software license in only valid for the computer on which the software is installed.

Q9. How many account can I Proteg-enable on a single computer?

You can Proteg-enable as many accounts that are available in the computer provided you have sufficient USB storage device for each account.

Q10. What should I do if I lose my Proteg-enabled USB storage device?

You will not be able to access the respective Proteg-enabled user account if you lose the corresponding Proteg-enabled USB storage device (even though you remember the password). Contact your system administrator if you do not have the administrator privilege to disable (using the Proteg Manager application) the affected Proteg-enabled user account. Subsequently, Proteg enable the said user account with a new USB storage device.

Q11. What is USB ?

USB, which stands for Universal Serial Interface, is a standard port that enables you to connect external devices (such as digital cameras, scanners, and mice) to Windows 98 and Macintosh computers. The USB standard supports data transfer rates of 12Mbps (million bits per second), a vast improvement over the serial port standard it is beginning to replace. Aside from speed advantages, USB devices can be connected or disconnected without the need to restart the computer. Many USB devices can work on either a Windows 98 PC or a Mac, provided the device manufacturer offers connectivity software for both computer systems. Many of the latest digital cameras offer USB as well as serial connections. Find out more?
